Maple Ridge Treatment Centre

Services | Graphic Design | 2022

The mural "We Do Recover" for the Maple Ridge Treatment Centre, was in collaboration with artist, Rain Pierre. Recovery is an important cause to Rain, and he donated his portion of the mural to the MRTC. He wanted to give back through his artwork, and hopes to inspire everyone who walks through the doors at MRTC on their paths to better their lives. It was a pleasure to be the graphic designer on this project knowing what a special role this artwork will play in peoples recovery and lives.

Maywood Elementary School Mural

Services | Graphic Design | 2022

Artist Rain Pierre led a Legacy Project mural at Maywood Elementary School where he conducted an art competition with the students, and the winners art was incorporated into Rain's final design. The piece was created in the heart of reconciliation and taking a positive, collective step forward. I was the graphic designer on this project and digitized the completed design for the vinyl production and installation.

Our Cupe BC

Services | Graphic Design, Production, Layout | 2021

The Our Cupe BC Indigenous Committee was looking for an Indigenous artist to create two posters with Coast Salish artwork. They reached out to artist Rain Pierre of RainAwakens to create some custom artwork to accompany the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. I was the graphic designer on the project who turned Rain’s art into vectors and incorporated it into a layout that allowed for the artwork to still be highlighted among the extensive text. The posters were distributed to all local Our Cupe BC locations in the province to raise awareness of the Calls to Action and UNDRIP.

Pitt Meadows Airport

Services | Graphic Design | 2021

Pitt Meadows Regional Airport reached out to artist Rain Pierre of Katzie First Nation for an art piece for the new airport. The intention behind his design was to protect and guide the aircrafts that take flight, and also the members that use this building on a daily basis. The flowers symbolize airplanes in the air, while the hummingbird watches over them to ensure everyone returns home safe to friends and family. I was the graphic designer for this project who vectorized Rain’s original design for the vinyl printer. We had to work with the staff to find a colour scheme that complemented the space, but still stood out and was true to Rain's vision.

Coquitlam Library

Services | Graphic Design | 2021

Coquitlam Library commissioned artist Rain Pierre of RainAwakens to create an art piece for the lamps in the space that would make the energy of the centre vibrant and lively. He created two designs: one with a hummingbird and one with a butterfly. As the graphic designer on the project, I vectorized Rain’s design into a digital graphic ready for the printer to print on vinyl for application onto the lamps.

During production, we had some back and forth to find the perfect opacity to keep true to the design and vibrancy, as well as to let enough light in.

The lamps were successfully installed in 2021.

Fraser Health Authority YPSW Guidelines

Services | Graphic Design, Layout, Production | 2021

I collaborated with local artist Rain Pierre (RainAwakens) of Katzie First Nation on this specific project. We were approached by the Fraser Health Authority to create custom artwork and design the “Guidelines to Deliver Youth Peer Support Worker Programming from an Indigenous Lens” that was being included in the current curriculum. The idea behind the curriculum is to build, support, and protect our youths values and culture. We were honoured to be asked to do the art work for each of the chapters.

Rain was responsible for hosting an Indigenous youth logo competition for the cover page, and designing all of the artistic elements, including the section pages and paddle design. Once designed and sketched, I vectorized all of his artwork to be included in the document.

The client wanted the design of the curriculum to be youthful, friendly and culturally relevant, for ages 18-24. The final design needed to be cohesive with the current curriculum in terms of colours and typeface, as well as following Fraser Health brand standards.

We included Rain’s paddle design on the outer margin of every page to make this section standout from the rest of the overall curriculum. We also felt called to include all of the youth artwork submissions to recognize and honour the artists.

My Health, My Community

Services | Graphic Design | 2020

Spryberry and Fraser Health reached out to local artist, Rain Pierre from RainAwakens of Katzie First Nation, for their “My Health, My Community” campaign. I brought his vision into digital form for application of his design on the marketing collateral for the campaign.

The inspiration behind Rain’s design is the woman in the cedar hat represents the medicine healers of the Coast Salish people who wore cedar hats during ceremonies, with the weaving of these hats representing our personal connections of heart and mind. The mountains are the hills and valleys we must overcome. The hummingbird represents our essence—we are each unique and heal at our own pace— while the butterfly represents our transformations throughout life.

The seven sacred teachings of reconciliation and the relations we have with people from all walks of life are represented by the seven different feathers.

City of Maple Ridge

Services | Graphic Design | 2020

I collaborated with local artist Rain Pierre (RainAwakens) of Katzie First Nation to bring his artistic vision into digital form for street banners for the City of Maple Ridge. With this design, Rain wanted to reflect the theme of love and acceptance, but also remind people of the beautiful creatures we have in our city. This is a tribute to First Nations artwork, but also a reminder to everyone to be mindful of our environment. The City of Maple Ridge is the home of people from all walks of life and welcomes all people of the world. The hummingbird is shown as smiling and happy over a sunrise. It is our belief that our community is on a new dawn in an age of creating space for everybody.

The banners were installed June 2020, and can be seen in Maple Ridge.

*Banner artwork on the left was created by local artist Phyllis Atkins of Spring Salmon Studio.

Maple Ridge Pride Spirit Bear Mural

Services | Graphic Design | 2020

I collaborated with local artist, Rain Pierre (RainAwakens), of Katzie First Nation to bring his mural vision into digital form for application on a new building in Maple Ridge. With this design, Rain chose the spirit bear to be friendly, joyful and cultural. The spirit bear is wearing a cedar headband with three bands representing the past, present, and future. They represent the past, present, and future of our generations. He also added in a rainbow on the drum and rainbow helix to represent the LGBTQ+ community.

Services | Graphic Design | 2020

I collaborated with local artist, Rain Pierre (RainAwakens), of Katzie First Nation to bring his artistic vision into digital form for printing and application of a custom logo for the Maple Ridge 2020 BC Summer Games. With this design, Rain chose the spirit bear to be friendly, joyful and cultural. The spirit bear is wearing a cedar headband with three bands representing the past, present, and future; reflection of the young individuals participating in the games. They represent the past, present, and future of our generations.

This is an application of the logo printed in the Spring 2020 issue of Bijou Lifestyle Magazine.
